  • How long should I stay for Angioplasty?

  • You should stay at least 7 days to complete a whole process. On your arrival day, you should stay in your hotel to relax from a long flight and have a surgery on the following day. Normally, Angioplasty requires 1-2 days in hospital. Post operative check up will be done afterward.

  • How is surgery performed?

  • Surgeon inserts a needle into a large artery in the groin area or arm. A flexible catheter is threaded through the artery to the blocked area, which may cause a burning sensation, pressure, heart palpitations, or shortness of breath. Then, a tiny balloon is inserted. At the blocked area, the balloon is inflated and deflated several times, opening the artery and restoring blood flow. Often, a stent will be placed to keep the artery open once the balloon is removed to avoid restenosis. The angioplasty can take 30 minutes to several hours.

  • What is the post-surgical care?

  • While you recover, nurses will check your heart rate, blood pressure and your arm or groin for bleeding. After a few hours, you will be able to walk with help. You will take aspirin or anti platelet medication. Regular blood tests will be required. Most people return to work about 1 week after being sent home.
