You are able to return to normal activities within a few days after microsurgical eye procedures. Some change in daily routine, such as no heavy lifting or activity that would increase pressure on the eyes, no reading, and no driving, are essential for a week following surgery. For laser surgery patients, recovery is immediate. Glaucoma surgery may need to be repeated, and medications are often required to maintain eye health.

What are the possible risks and complications?
Incision surgery always carries a risk of infection. A glaucoma surgery may over-correct or under-correct the problem, and medications or additional surgeries may be necessary. For patients who undergo glaucoma surgery, cataracts may result. They are common in glaucoma sufferers. Cataract removal can be performed concurrently with glaucoma surgery if cataracts are present prior to the procedure.
