How is surgery performed?
If an open hernia repair is performed, the surgeon will make one large incision on the abdomen and repair the hernia. Once inside, your surgeon will suture a surgical mesh to strengthen the weakened muscle.
For laparoscopic surgery, surgeon will make small incisions then insert tube-like instruments through these incisions. The abdomen will be filled with gas to visualize the abdominal cavity. A camera, inserted through one of the tubes, will display images on a monitor. Other instruments will be placed through the additional tubes.
Which procedure to be performed depends on patient’s condition and doctor’s decision.
