  • How long should I stay for Hernia Repair?

  • You should stay at least 10 days to complete a whole laparoscopic process. On your arrival day, you should stay in your hotel to relax from a long flight and have a surgery on the following day. Normally, Hernia Repoair will require 3 nights stay in the hospital. Post operative check up will be done 7 days after the surgery.

  • How is surgery performed?

  • If an open hernia repair is performed, the surgeon will make one large incision on the abdomen and repair the hernia. Once inside, your surgeon will suture a surgical mesh to strengthen the weakened muscle.

For laparoscopic surgery, surgeon will make small incisions then insert tube-like instruments through these incisions. The abdomen will be filled with gas to visualize the abdominal cavity. A camera, inserted through one of the tubes, will display images on a monitor. Other instruments will be placed through the additional tubes.

Which procedure to be performed depends on patient’s condition and doctor’s decision.

  • What is the post-surgical care?

  • You must avoid heavy lifting or straining for about 6 - 8 weeks after surgery. Do not take a bath for at least 5 days after the operation. Soaking may separate the skin tapes and the wound could break open.

  • What are the possible risks and complications?

  • As with any surgery, there are risks such as bleeding, infection, or an adverse reaction to anesthesia. Other risks include injury to the bowel or a recurrence of the hernia.
